  1. Wake on Wrong….

May 5, 2011 by The Man

Is it any wonder technology is so confusing … if there is one thing I know a bit about is Wake On Lan and I do my best to help as many people as possible to use the technology.

Recently I saw on Twitter a question from serverfault about WoL so I thought I would pop over and see if I could help.

Now this type of question I have been asked 100’s of times over the last 11 years. It’s always the same, I send a WoL signal to my machine and it wakes up for the first 15 minutes but after that nothing. Now 10 times out of 10 it is because the WoL packet was sent to the ip address of the machine. So what happens when that machine is turned off ? Well the machine no longer has that ip address although the ip address will remain in the arp cache of other equipment for a small amount of time.

So why am I whining like a little bitch ? Well look above and you will see a so called expert not only mark my answer down but edit the original question. So John Gardeniers has now made a very small part of the internet a bit more stupid. Thanks John.

Will it stop me from answering questions ? No, I leave the reader to make up their own mind but I cannot help but feel reputation on these kind of sites is diminished.

  2. #Eng #Fail

What’s the difference between a teabag and England? A teabag stays in the cup longer.

The player of the match was the little bird on Algeria’s goal.

MISSING PERSON NOTICE: 24 year-old male, last seen wearing Man Utd #10 shirt, answers to Wayne.

David James to play in goal for England against Algeria tonight. He was 3rd-choice last Saturday. Remarkable.

We’re sending the AFC Smithfield DVD out to¬†ENG, they need all the help they can get!!!

England are complaining to FIFA that a fan got into their dressing rooms after the game. Should be glad they still have one.

The best thing about that match was that we don’t have to watch it again.

Is England’s performance indicative of the English Premier League; inflated egos , inflated wages, poor overall English quality?

3 hours of football played and Rob Green is still our top scorer.

  3. Journalism and the web don’t mix

March 1, 2010 by The Man

I am not sure what the telegraph was thinking, apart from page impressions and maybe ad clicks, when they posted the headline “Apple admits using child labour” but judging by the comments I am not the only one to find it odd.

Lies isn’t really what journalism is about, the factories are not owned by Apple in the same way I don’t own Tesco but I do shop there. When I was 15 I worked in a spray shot for a Ford garage, so therefore “Ford admits using children in bio-hazardous plants”, no of course not.

The sad part is that Apple and Nike are trying to make this world a little better, they are trying to ensure safety and bio standards are met in factories where they contract for goods to be made. I wonder if the boards at HP, Dell or Cisco are put off doing they kind of reports because of cocks like the telegraph.

Traditional news media is dying and this really isn’t going to help. I would rather take my news from than what passes as journalism at the telegraph now days.
